Enough elitist talk already

Romney called Obama elitist again yesterday. Enough already. This is absolutely ridiculous. First Hillary, then McCain and now Romney. For one Presidential nominee to call another elitist is preposterous. These are people who think that out of the 300 million individuals in this country they are the most qualified to run the country. Does it get more elitist than that? Actually, it might.

It could be more elitist if say you were the former first lady who was twice named one of the 100 most powerful attorneys in the country. More so if that woman also happened to be from family money and has made over 100 million dollars in the past 5 years.

Perhaps you are more elitist if you are the son of an Admiral, who is the son of an Admiral. If you then marry a supermodel actress only to divorce her to marry an heiress worth 9 figures (AKA more than 100 million dollars) then you could have a touch more elitism than other people whoant to be President.

You could be more elitist than the average Presidential candidate if you are personally worth more than 300 million dollars and try to self finance a large part of your campaign. I feel there is something particularly arrogant and condescending about thinking you can buy the Presidency (not that having to sell it to donors is much better).

For anyone who sounds like 1 of the above 3 people to call someone raised at times on food stamps who only recently paid off his student loans because he was working in urban areas as an organizer and then in state government an elitist is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, Obama is no longer your average guy. However, he certainly is no more elitist than the other people running for President. The charade of pretending to be the common man is stupid and we need to let it go. None of these people are the "common man" and to elect someone based upon their ability to portray themselves as such is to vote for someone based upon their ability to play act at being someone they aren't. Besides, do we want an average person running the country? Its kind of a complicated job that might be one where above average ability helps. Not convinced? We tried the "guy you would want to hang out with" for 8 years...it didn't go so well.
