Healthcare reform was a signature issue for Obama and the Democrats which they, in part, rode to a landslide victory. For 60% of the country to now not trust them to pass reform is quite telling. Certainly the polling data before the election demonstrated far greater trust for Democrats than Republicans on healthcare reform. Now, while this doesn't show trust for Republicans, it does show distrust for Democrats.
If Democrats do pass reform I think you might see a backlash against them. I think the majority of Americans do not want reform to pass at this point, or will be wary of any such reform. Given the huge Democratic majority it could play into Republican hands, who will claim the Democrats ran wild with their large majorities. This could be just the card Republicans need to convince the voters that they should be given more seats in Congress to act as a check against the allegedly overly liberal Democratic agenda.
