Championship Weekend

Here we are one Sunday and 2 games from the Super Bowl. The lucky few who will gain entry into the greatest game of the year, the Giants and the Pats.

NYG @ GB: Green Bay is favored by 7.5 and going off at a little below 3:1 on the money line. What do the Giants have to do to get some respect? The Packers are not as good as the Cowboys. They lost to them during the year. They played worse generally than the Cowboys during the season. The Giants just outplayed the Cowboys on Sunday, after having DOMINATED the Bucs and played an incredibly tight game against the PATS.

So, you respond to the above "Yeah, but they killed the Giants at the Meadowlands." OK, true. However, they did so in week 2 before the Giants founds themselves, and about a half dozen rookies and 2nd year players who are now kicking ass and taking names. Ahmad Bradshaw for instance. They also did so at home where the Giants were 3-5 this year. They are 9-1 on the road. Apparently they just don't like NJ, what do you want from me, I can't explain everything.

Alright, still not convinced? How about this, the GB offense is far inferior to the Cowboys. Favre is good, but he's a gunslinger. He takes chances and the Giants will make him pay for it. Ryan Grant is good, but he won't run through the Giants line. The Giants own the rush, they eat it up like Popeye and his spinach. Oh, and the GB receivers, good, but not exactly comparable to T.O., Terry Glen, Patrick Crayton and TE Fasano. The Giants shutdown the Cowboys for basically the entire second half and held them to 2 TDs in the first half. Oh, and for those who listen to the media and didn't watch the game, that monumental Cowboys drive for one of their TDs was far from impressive. Let me explain, first down incomplete. Second down, 2 yard rush. Third down Romo is nearly sacked but manages to complete an 8.5 yard pass for the first down. Repeat 7 more times. Literally, it was a 20 play drive that covered about 74 yards. Oh yeah, and Barber appeared to fall about 2 inches shy of the TD which the Refs gave him anyway. The Giant response, 53 seconds on the clock, thanks, we only need 47 to go 80 yards to tie the game 6 seconds before the half.

As for the Giants offense and the Packers D. Eli looks SICK. He is insane at the moment. Need a score? See above. The Giants O-line ought to be the Pro Bowl line. Eli has a week and a half back there to throw. Jacobs, 5 ypc, Ward, 5 ypc, Bradshaw, 5 ypc. Coughlin could step in there himself and run for 5 yards it seems. Better yet, Bradshaw breaks a 50 yard run once a week and Jacobs runs through 3 guys every other play for an additional 10. The Giants win this game by at least a TD if not 2 TDS.

P.S. Snow and wind are not expected just cold. Eli is OK in cold, its just wind that seems to screw with him and he got that under control at the Meadowlands in week 17

Pats v Chargers: Well, this is pretty easy. The Chargers are banged up. Rivers and Tomlinson will play, but they are hurt. They are playing in Massachusetts, against the Pats. While they are not the same team that the Pats obliterated early in the season (hmmm sounds like a pattern here) they still aren't better than the Pats. They played inspired football against the Colts, but got pretty lucky. That tipped Manning int for instance. Also, the Colts D is not that good. However, the Chargers will keep this closer than one might think in my opinion. The Pats O will roll. They will put up 5 scores I think, but don't be surprised if the Chargers keep this within a TD, especially if Rivers and Tomlinson are mostly healthy. I predict a high scoring affair where the Chargers lose by 7 or less. However, I warn you, they could easily get killed lol.

Also, one more thing to watch. The Giants have a plus 25 sack differential (and led the league in sacks). The Packers have a minus 17 differential. In other words, Favre hits the ground on average 1 more time per game than his opposing QB and Manning stay up more than 1 more time a game than his opponent. So, don't expect to see Manning hit the ground often, but hope that old man Favre can still walk after all the hits he is going to take.
