OK, its official. If there was any doubt that the media is overhyping the Super Bowl (something I'm not sure I believed was possible what with my beloved Giants in it and all) it has been removed with this story. Burress is being accused of saying the Giants have a better receiving corps than the Patriots. Did the reporters actually read the quote before erupting or did they just write their story first? The quote is "We have guys that can go out and do things just as well or maybe better than some of those guys."
Wow, Earth shattering stuff there. We have guys that can go out and do things as well, or MAYBE better than SOME of their guys? So let me get this straight. Burress is talking trash by saying its possible that MAYBE there is SOMEONE in the Giants receiver corps that is better than SOMEONE on the Patriots receiving corps? Thats not news, its a ridiculously bland statement committing to nothing other than supporting his teammates. If the media thinks this will be fodder for the Pats locker room, think again. I mean hell, Burress isn't even accused of saying the Giants WRs will do better than the Pats WRs, implicitly calling out the Pat D also. Nope, all he says is maybe there is someone with a WR next to their name on the Giants roster better than someone with a WR on the Pats roster...can you say overhyped already? The next week is going to be a long one.
