And Vermont makes four

Vermont just became the fourth state in the US where same-sex marriage is legal and, much more excitingly, the first state ever to pass it legislatively. And that a simple majority either, the Vermont legislature was forced to over-ride republican governor Jim Douglas's veto of the measure. The Senate did this easily with a vote of 23-5, but in the House, the over-ride passed by a single vote, 100-49.

I have to think that the momentum from the Iowa court decision might have carried us over the line on this one. Regardless, another victory in an amazing week for equality. Now if only the President would stop going abroad extolling the importance of minority rights abroad while basically ignoring the civil rights battle being waged domestically.
