Bush spoke out against the Moveon.org Betray us ad today and made thoroughly hypocritical and embarrassing comments, yet again. He's "disappointed that not more Democratic leaders have spoken out." "Not more?" C'mon man. You're the President of the United States. Please try to sound mildly articulate. Of course he ignores the fact that large numbers of Democratic leaders DID criticize the ad, but when did facts every get in Bush's way?
The more aggravating aspects of this to me are the hypocrisy and ridiculous extrapolations. This was not an attack on the military itself, as Bush disingenuously claims. It was an expression of a belief held by more than half of the country; that Petraeus' report was not going to be truthful and accurate but that he would instead seek merely to offer political protection to the President. The other part that angers me is the incredible hypocrisy. Democrats are beholden to left wing groups? Umm, excuse me sir, let me introduce you to a woman named Harriet Myers. She was your Supreme Court nominee that the right wing interests YOU are beholden to torpedoed. Also, allow me to point to basically everything your administration has ever done. This is the single largest panderer in the history of the United States and he has the unmitigated gall to accuse Democrats of being beholden to left wing groups because they didn't criticize Moveon.org enough for his taste? Get real.
On a related note, Mr. President, what did you do about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth? Did you denounce them? No. Did Republicans generally denounce them? No. Were you outraged? No. You spoke out against all 527's. Oh my, what a brave man. You really told them. Oh, wait, you didn't tell them because you specifically refused to single out individual groups. So, let me get this straight, when its good for you, you refuse to criticize groups that run advertisements containing complete lies lambasting a highly decorated military hero. When it suits your political purposes you are more than happy to call out everyone and anyone (who has a 'D' by their name) who doesn't attack a group running an advertisement that is purely opinion. An opinion which is held by a majority of Americans (I felt this bore repeating). Hmmm, so apparently what Moveon.org should have done was just spread lies about how Petraeus got all of his medals, then you would have just generally disliked 527's but wouldn't have singled out that one group. In other words, slander/libel you are OK with but exercising one's 1st Amendment right to an opinion infuriates you and is "disgusting." Got it, now I have one more reason to be embarassed to call you Mr. President.
