Republicans out of touch with reality

The Republicans are accusing Democrats of not supporting the troops because Harry Reid has declared the war lost. The majority of Americans agree with this assessment, and agree that the troops should come home. Why do Republicans think they can score political points by accusing Democrats of not supporting the troops for holding the same position that most Americans hold? Elections usually require the support of a majority of the people, so accusing them of not supporting the troops is probably not the best of ideas.

One could argue that the Republicans are merely stating what they believe, and that they are condeming someone whom they believe is hurting the troops. I might believe this, if not for the fact that numerous Republicans immediately came out with very similar statements. The Republican political machine kicked into gear as usual. The normal players came out with the same statement within hours of one another, I suppose its possible they were all offended in the same manner, but it seems MUCH more likely that it was the coordinated effort of the well oiled Republican political machine. This means that they somehow believe criticizing the view of the majority of Americans, and being unable to read the writing on the wall, will score political points. C'mon guys, I thought you were better at this little game than that. Plus, as a corrolary, no one is saying anything bad about the troops. Its not their fault they were sent in. Its not their fault they weren't brought home in time. Finally, its not their fault their superiors failed to perform ANY post war planning. Then again, is it really surprising that those who failed to plan and advocated this disaster in the first place would fail to see that the indictment is not of the troops but of those who committed our nations brave young men and women in such a callous and poorly thought out manner?
